What You’ll Get To Do
- Prepare key fiduciary tax filings, including Federal Estate Tax Returns (Form 706), New Jersey Inheritance Tax Returns (Form IT-R), and New York Estate Tax Returns (Form ET-706)
- Manage the full return process—gathering and confirming information, communicating with clients, attorneys, appraisers, accountants, financial advisors, and ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Prepare supporting and ancillary forms as needed to complete estate and inheritance filings
- Assist with IRS and state audits, including communication with examiners
- Prepare Federal Gift Tax Returns (Form 709) and coordinate with clients and attorneys to ensure filings align with estate planning objectives
- Prepare Formal and Informal Accountings for Estates, Trusts, and Guardianships, directly involving trust accounting
- Facilitate other aspects of Estate and Trust administration and termination, including distributions, deferred tax calculations, and closing of accounts
- Provide support for Estate and Trust litigation matters, which may involve trust disputes and requires knowledge of trust structures
- Serve as a technical resource for attorneys and staff on fiduciary accounting principles and compliance
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3–5 years of hands-on fiduciary, trust, or estate accounting experience (law firm, fiduciary services group, or financial institution preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of fiduciary accounting, estate and trust administration, and tax reporting requirements
- Experience preparing estate, inheritance, and gift tax returns (Forms 706, 709, IT-R, ET-706)
- Proficiency with accounting software; experience with fiduciary or trust/estate platforms strongly preferred
- Excellent accuracy, organization, and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with attorneys, clients, and court personnel
- Ability to balance multiple deadlines while maintaining thoroughness and professionalism
- High ethical standards and understanding of confidentiality in fiduciary environments
- CPA license or active progress toward CPA
- Experience preparing fiduciary income tax returns (Form 1041 and state equivalents)
- Familiarity with law firm operations, client fund requirements, and professional responsibility rules
