Qualifications:
Applicant must be highly qualified which requires one of the following and a complete application on file to be eligible for the position:
- Valid New Mexico Licensure for Social Worker.
- Master’s Level or pursuing a Master’s in Social Work.
- Must become a certified driver to transport students.
REPORTS TO:
School Site Administrator (Primary) Director of Special Education (Secondary)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the screening, referral, evaluation, identification, placement, and re-evaluation processes of Special Education.
- Conducts Social Skills Assessments and writes reports in a timely fashion (within 30 days)
- Conducts social skills therapy groups with all students determined eligible and keeps appropriate documentation
- Communicates with parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on social concerns affecting students receiving Special Education services.
- Observes students receiving Special Education services to determine social service needs and as required for re-evaluations.
- Observe a student referred for evaluation for Special Education eligibility.
- Provide individual, group, and/or family counseling services (within the limits of licensure held by social workers) to students receiving special education services.
- Maintains contact with the home regarding education and social services issues, and makes home visits as needed.
- Follows district and school rules, guidelines, regulations, and policies.
- Attend all IEPs for school(s) assigned, and assist facilitator with IEP documentation as required.
- Compile student packet information and submit it to Sped office in a timely manner.
- Actively foster positive relationships with all staff and the community.
- Assist with dissemination of information and linkage to resources regarding the transition to adult independent living/career/post-secondary training.
