What are the responsibilities and job description for the Occupational Therapist Assistant position at Exceptional Children Department?
Position: Occupational Therapist Assistant
Reports to: Director of Exceptional Children
- Implement occupational therapy treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist
- Provide direct therapy services to students with a variety of disabilities
- Support students in developing fine motor, sensory, self-care, and functional skills
- Assist with data collection and documentation of student progress toward IEP goals
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
- Adapt classroom materials and environments to support student needs
- Maintain accurate and timely records in compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines
- Participate in IEP meetings as appropriate
- Associate’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Current state licensure/certification as a COTA
- Experience working with children, preferably in a school setting
- Knowledge of special education processes, including IEPs (preferred)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
