Can perform venipuncture, heel, and finger sticks with minimal trauma to the patient. Completes daily tasks in department and can plan workload to meet turn-around-times for stat and routine draws. Complies with regulations to meet federal, state, and local accrediting agency requirements. Observes safety rules and precautions for patients, residents, visitors, medical staff, and fellow employees. Observes universal precautions and uses safety equipment. Supports changes in testing menus and procedures, offers suggestions to improve processes. Follow procedures reliably, use supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner. Recognizes errors, follows up with appropriate corrective action and notifies supervisor or pathologist of difficulties. Performs charging of laboratory procedures in compliance with the hospital wide compliance plan and participates in maintaining corporate compliance. Participates in lab Performance Improvement (PI) projects-completes assigned tasks relating to PI projects. Maintains a neat and clean work area, restocks phlebotomy supplies, and helps maintain the laboratory environment and requests additional tasks when work is complete and finishes additional tasks. Explains laboratory procedures in a manner that the patient can understand. Completes annual compliance training, equipment competency, and maintains certification/licensure. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Position Requirements: Previous laboratory experience preferred. Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant Certification preferred. Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or preapproved provider. Obtains four hours of CEU’s annually.
