Duties

• Verify patient insurance eligibility for optometry services using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems
• Accurately assign CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes for optometry procedures and diagnoses
• Manage medical billing processes, including submission of claims and follow-up on unpaid or denied claims
• Handle medical collections efficiently by communicating with insurance companies and patients to resolve billing issues
• Maintain comprehensive medical records ensuring all documentation aligns with coding and billing standards
• Stay current with updates in DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), ICD coding, and medical terminology to ensure compliance and accuracy
• Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify documentation requirements for proper coding and reimbursement
  
  

Requirements

• Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or healthcare administrative roles within a medical or optometry setting
• Strong knowledge of DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems
• Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used in healthcare practices
• Excellent understanding of medical terminology and medical records management
• Experience with medical collection processes and insurance claim submissions
• Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and efficiently
• Prior experience in a medical office environment is highly preferred
• Prior experience with multiple MCOs preferred
