Job Title: Data Center Technician 3 (S3)
About the Role
We are seeking a Data Center Technician to support servers and infrastructure within enterprise data centers. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in hardware, IT systems, and cabling management. This individual should be analytical, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and demonstrate a collaborative, results-driven mindset.
The technician will be expected to contribute to documentation efforts (SOPs, KBs, lessons learned), communicate effectively across teams, and take ownership of service quality and infrastructure performance.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, stage, install, and manage hardware startups and shutdowns (e.g., racks, hard drives, switches) using checklists and protocols.
- Conduct diagnostics and troubleshoot hardware issues, replacing faulty components with minimal business impact.
- Perform post-execution quality checks and ensure hardware, grounding, labeling, and cabling meet standards.
- Decommission hardware for upgrades or OS rebuilds following standard operating procedures.
- Communicate and escalate incidents according to established processes.
- Participate in safety briefings and comply with safety protocols.
- Collaborate with team members and contribute to knowledge sharing and workflow efficiency.
- Complete assigned tickets in accordance with KPIs and SLAs.
- Take ownership of service quality and user experience.
- Stay customer-focused and understand the business impact of daily tasks.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of server hardware, with the ability to diagnose and address component-level failures.
- Experience assisting with field failure analysis and fleet health monitoring.
- Experience using IPMI tools for diagnostics.
- Familiarity with tools for diagnostics, testing, and firmware updates.
- Real-time problem-solving experience during hardware deployments.
- Experience with Windows Server OS and WinPE OS; Linux PXE services experience is a plus.
- Basic scripting experience (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Network troubleshooting skills across Layer 1–3.
- Familiarity with virtual machine setup and configuration.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in distributed teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in a data center technician role.
- Associate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or equivalent experience.
- Certifications or equivalent experience:
- CompTIA A
- CompTIA Server
- CCENT (or equivalent)
- CCNA (preferred)
- MCP/MCSE (preferred)
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and wear PPE as required.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $30.00 - $36.00 per hour
