Position Overview
We are seeking a professional, dependable, and experienced Fire Life Safety Director (FLSD) for a commercial property located in New York City.
The Fire Life Safety Director will play an important role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for tenants, visitors, employees, and building personnel. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm and respond effectively during emergency situations.
This position requires a valid F-89 Fire and Life Safety Director Certificate of Fitness. Candidates who currently hold a Z-89 are also encouraged to apply.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- 10:00 AM–6:00 PM
- Full-time schedule
- Overtime opportunities may be available
- Overtime is mandatory when requested based on operational needs
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and enforce established fire and life safety procedures throughout the property.
- Conduct required fire and life safety inspections and maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation.
- Monitor fire alarm and life safety systems and respond appropriately to alarms, emergencies, and other incidents.
- Coordinate and assist with building evacuations and emergency procedures when required.
- Respond to fire, medical, security, and other emergency situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Work closely with building management, tenants, security personnel, and emergency responders.
- Ensure compliance with applicable NYC fire and life safety requirements, emergency action plans, and building policies.
- Report safety hazards, equipment issues, unusual conditions, and other concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain a professional and visible presence throughout the property.
- Perform additional fire and life safety or security-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid NYC F-89 Fire and Life Safety Director Certificate of Fitness required
- Z-89 candidates are welcome to apply
- Valid New York State Security Guard Registration Card required
- Previous Fire Life Safety Director or commercial building experience preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally with tenants, visitors, management, and emergency personnel.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate reports and documentation.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and reliable.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and conduct patrols for extended periods.
- Must be flexible and available to work mandatory overtime when requested.
