Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Fleet Manager to oversee the efficient operation and management of our vehicle fleet. In this role, you will be responsible for executing domestic /ocean container orders in a safe, efficient, and profitable manner and in accordance with customer expectations, Government laws and D.O.T. regulations. Keeps drivers, customer service, operations, and safety informed of pertinent issues. Advocate, coach, mentor and director of assigned owner operator drivers. Backs up others in Operations Department and works to cultivate effective, results-producing team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Plan and execute daily dispatch of orders to meet customer requirements using our computerized dispatch system
· Seeks safe ways to maximize driver success and customer satisfaction
· Dispatches drivers by tablet, phone, or in person
· Coaches drivers, cultivates trust and confidence
· Updates computer of load notes, customer issues, and solutions
· Uses Internet resources and interfaces with the port, steamship lines, and other intermodal stakeholders
· Minimize expense and inefficiencies such as bobtail, dry runs, per diem; while maximizing equipment utilization
· Communicates effectively with customer service, safety, and accounting
· Keeps current with steamship, port, rail and other intermodal facilities’ locations and requirements
· Routes appropriate issues to Operations Manager
· Communicates via daily pass down freight shortages/overages, balance issues to Customer Service Specialist
· Thorough understanding of drivers’ personal work preference and pertinent information
· After hours contact for drivers (On call rotation)
· Other duties may be assigned
Requirements
- Proven experience in fleet management or road transportation operations with a strong understanding of logistics principles
- Familiarity with transportation management systems such as Oracle Transportation Management or similar platforms
- Knowledge of GPS, GIS mapping tools, and vehicle tracking technologies to enhance route planning and fleet monitoring
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills for effective internal communication, dispatching, customer service, and phone call management
- Ability to interpret DOT regulations and ensure compliance across all fleet activities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for reporting and data analysis
- Experience with freight shipping & receiving processes and vehicle dispatching software is highly desirable
- Demonstrated analysis skills to evaluate operational data for continuous improvement efforts
- Strong typing skills for efficient data entry and documentation tasks
