Position Summary:
Setup and operate buffing and polishing equipment to create a finished surface that meets print and customer specifications.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Daily polishing and heat treating of product.
•    Setup and operate polishing and buffing equipment from print specifications.
•    Polish instruments per blueprint, utilizing a variety of grit belts and wheels to achieve desired finish.
•    Select appropriate abrasives according to material type, finished specified and steps in the finishing process.
•    Grind, sand, clean or polish parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing.
•    Verify quality of finished workpieces by inspecting them and measuring their dimensions to ensure polishing standards and blueprint specifications are met.
•    Follow company work instructions and standard operating procedures for the polishing department.
•    Complete assigned jobs in accordance with production timelines.
•    Perform preventative maintenance and upkeep on polishing equipment including replacing worn components and maintain the maintenance logs as required.
•    Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
•    Meet and maintain established production efficiency and effectiveness standards for the polishing process.
•    Ensure proper and complete documentation of all required paperwork and production data in ERP system. Maintain all documentation as required.
•    Complete all documentation per ISO 13485 and FDA requirements.
•    All other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
•    Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control.
•    3 years of experience in polishing stainless steel, titanium and aluminum preferred.
•    Experience is ISO/FDA environment preferred.
•    Ability to read and interpret blueprints and hold tight tolerances.
•    Proficient in the use of machine shop measuring tools.
•    Proficient in math, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
•    Excellent manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
•    Ability to be highly accurate with a high attention to detail.
•    Sound understanding of the principles of the various products.
•    Possess strong mechanical aptitude.
•    Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve work issues.
•    Ability to read and comprehend work instructions and ISO & FDA regulations.
•    Ability to repeat the same physical and mental activities over and over.
•    Ability to maintain a sense of urgency, handle stressful situations, multitask and ability to prioritize work.
•    Ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously.
•    Ability to communicate and interact effectively, professionally and constructively.


Work Environment:
•    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
•    Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that can be distracting or uncomfortable.
•    Includes exposure to moving mechanical parts.
•    Includes exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
•    Work environment is temperature controlled.

Physical Requirements:

•    Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
•    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
•    Ability to sit for up to 12 hours per day.
•    Requires repetitive movement.
•    Requires bending and twisting.

Education, Certifications, and/or Licenses Requirements:
