The School of Education at Eastern Washington University (EWU) is seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the Program Specialist 2 position. The Program Specialist 2 position coordinates specialized programs in the School of Education. Responsibilities include managing program services, organizing resources, and developing plans to carry out program activities. You’ll also serve as a liaison, offering guidance and advice to students, staff, and faculty, as well as external partners like Central Academic Advising, community colleges, and state agencies.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, any field or equivalent years of work experience
- At least two years of full-time work experience at an educational institution (college, university, or P-12). Work experience must include at least two of the following:
- Student services involving advising, counseling, and/or consulting regarding program functions, policies, procedures, regulations
- Student recruitment
- Serving as a liaison between the organization and external entities on matters of substance as the designated first point of contact
- Other work directly related to job responsibilities (review job description for guidance)
- A completed degree in Education may be substituted for the work experience requirement.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, execute, and oversee multiple projects
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with a proven ability to build strong, responsive relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including students, faculty, administrators, and P-12 partners.

Coordinate, implement, and participate in the recruitment, admission, and candidacy phases of the School of Education undergraduate teacher education program.
- Participate in and support recruitment and admissions, working closely with the Undergraduate Director, Committee for Admission, Recruitment, Retention, and Transition (“CARRT”), School of Education chair, faculty, and university stakeholders:
- Participate in recruitment activities for the School of Education.
- Participate with EWU Office of Admissions in meeting with high school and college counselors.
- Coordinate with stakeholders regarding teacher advising fairs and job fairs for registration and attendance at events (may include travel).
- Serve as a liaison with CAAR, CPEP, community colleges, and cross-campus partners on recruitment and admissions of candidates.
- Maintain effective relationships with all participants, including EWU faculty, who collaborate and/or participate in the Professional Admissions Program.
- Schedule recruitment, admission, and advertisement meetings and/or workshops.
- Manages the admissions process for the School of Education, including checking requirements, updating student statuses, and providing reports to faculty.
- Compiles applicant data, organizes interviews, and supports students with their registration and course updates.
- Provide administrative support for CARRT by preparing meeting agendas, distributing materials, taking meeting notes, and processing appeals.
- Work closely with the Undergraduate Director in processes related to the transition of students, retention, and completion activities:
- Coordinate and implement assigned components of the undergraduate program.
- Implement the quarterly undergraduate processes.
- Work with the School of Education teams to improve processes.
- Organize and monitor the Teacher Education Program transition points (i.e. coursework, field experience, student teaching, permits) as outlined in the undergraduate processes
- Ensure accuracy of entries in SMR system data for admissions application and other data housed in SMR system (i.e. program plans, advisor assignments, FERPR); when needed, initiate updates for SMR records.
Assist faculty with academic advisement for undergraduate students seeking initial teaching certificates.
- Provide student support services and assist the Department Chair and Directors in advising for individual programs:
- Assist students in EWU Teacher Education Admission process.
- Assist students in completing the School of Education orientation.
- Establish and keep current a folio containing academic and certification information for each undergraduate student.
- Advise students on West-B/Basic Skills; track test scores
- Review student records to assess progress toward Initial Certification requirements and graduation.
- Estimate the length of time to satisfy the major and minor requirements on EWU Teacher Education Program; inform students and program directors
- Assist prospective students in selecting major, minors and explore endorsements within the School of Education by connecting with students, working with community colleges, attending advising fairs/career fairs, and answering inquiries via email/phone/Zoom.
General planning and maintenance of the School of Education teacher education programs
- Assist the Chair and Program Directors with planning meetings and events (advertising, agendas, compiling materials, and communication).
- Work with appropriate faculty, staff, and department to ensure that admissions and related processes work efficiently. Revise processes when necessary, including workflow issues relating to program plans, admissions applications, and other unforeseen circumstances.
- Attend all faculty and staff meetings of the School of Education.
- Maintain knowledge of undergraduate programs of EWU and other PNW higher education institutions.
- Interpret university and department policy, solve problems, and offer recommendations.
- Work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, work-study students, administrators, educators, and the public.
- Conduct research and statistical reporting
- Inform Department Chair and Undergraduate Director of necessary research and statistical information related to undergraduate programs including statistical data on admission, retention, and minority criteria.
- Compile statistical data on academic and professional programs and certification requirements.
- Perform other administrative and/or clerical work to assist the Undergraduate Office, ensuring the security of confidential information.
