The Office Of Institutional Research Enables University Employees To Make Data-informed Decisions. Under The Supervision Of The Director Of Institutional Research, The Data Consultant 3 Will Collaborate With Other Members Of The Institutional Research Team To
The salary for this position is $64,500 (minimum) – $74,760. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on qualifications, education, experience, and skills. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and disability insurance and retirement. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in statistics, data science, data analytics, computer science, economics, or mathematics with coursework in mathematical statistics (theory) and general linear models OR Two years of experience working as Data Consultant 2 or equivalent OR Equivalent education/experience
- One year of experience developing queries using Structured Query Language (SQL)
- Demonstrated experience working with database management systems (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL), including the ability to analyze data structures, interpret relationships between tables, and apply principles of relational database design
- One year of experience applying complex statistical reasoning and statistical procedures using the Python or R programming language (STATA, SAS or similar will also be considered)
- Excellent reproducible research habits (e.g., using Git and clean code practices)
- Proven ability in data cleaning techniques that ensure accuracy and reliability
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new statistical/machine learning methods
- Demonstrated expertise in interpreting and communicating data insights through visualization and analytical tools, ensuring clarity and accessibility for diverse audiences
- One year of experience presenting research and/or statistical findings and methods to technical and non-technical constituents
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
- Master’s degree in statistics, data science, data analytics, computer science, economics, or mathematics with coursework in mathematical statistics (theory) and general linear models
- Knowledge and implementation of machine/statistical learning methodology (predictive modeling workflow)
- R package development experience
- Demonstrated experience with Tableau (or Power BI) data visualization tools
- Experience working with student-related higher education data and analyzing issues related to student enrollment, persistence, and completion

- Establish project data requirements and data mining methods using SQL, mathematical statistical processing, and other computer application software

- Assist with the design, implementation, maintenance, and improvements of data visualizations, dashboards, and reports
- Query (using SQL), analyze, and report data from the university’s business intelligence systems in response to recurring and ad hoc requests
- Check reporting procedures for uniformity for university employees to obtain data they require for their routine reporting
- Create and maintain predictive analytics models
- Assist with the compilation, formatting, cleaning, and submitting of data into the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and Public Centralized Higher Education Enrollment System (PCHEES)
- Collaborate with IT technical experts, budget analysts, and other staff to audit student census data and improve reporting processes
