Senior / Staff DevOps Engineer – Platform Infrastructure
About the Role
A high‑growth technology company is seeking a Senior/Staff DevOps Engineer to help operate and evolve the infrastructure that supports its engineering teams and cloud‑based products.
This is a hands‑on role spanning AWS cloud infrastructure and on‑prem environments, with a strong focus on CI/CD systems, developer productivity, reliability, and security. You’ll work closely with software engineers to improve development, testing, and deployment workflows rather than building customer‑facing product features.
The environment includes complex C build and packaging systems, making this role well suited to someone who enjoys solving hard infrastructure and build‑related problems at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and improve hybrid infrastructure across AWS and on‑prem environments
- Maintain and scale CI/CD systems (GitLab CI or similar), including runner infrastructure
- Improve reliability and performance of build, test, and deployment pipelines
- Support and optimize build systems for multi‑language environments, including C
- Troubleshoot complex issues across compute, networking, storage, and CI systems
- Manage virtualization platforms and internal compute resources
- Develop automation and tooling (primarily Python) to improve engineering workflows
- Support containerized environments using Docker
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to remove friction from development and release processes
- Implement secure infrastructure practices (secrets management, access control, logging)
- Support SOC 2 / ISO 27001 (or similar) compliance efforts
- Assist with open‑source software usage and licensing
- Evaluate and support adoption of developer productivity and AI‑assisted tools
Required Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience in DevOps, infrastructure, or systems engineering
- Strong experience with Linux‑based systems
- Hands‑on experience with AWS
- Experience operating CI/CD systems (GitLab CI preferred)
- Experience with Docker and containerized workflows
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Python or similar)
- Experience supporting C build and packaging workflows in CI/CD environments
- (e.g. CMake‑based builds, dependency management, artifact generation)
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure or build‑system issues
- Comfortable collaborating closely with software engineering teams
- Familiarity with secure infrastructure best practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating hybrid cloud on‑prem environments
- Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g. Proxmox, VMware)
- Experience managing CI runners or large‑scale build/test systems
- Experience with C package management tools (e.g. Conan, vcpkg)
- Familiarity with artifact/package repositories (Artifactory, Cloudsmith, Packagecloud, etc.)
- Experience with system‑level packaging (Debian/apt, RPM)
- Exposure to advanced build systems (e.g. Bazel)
- Experience supporting multi‑language environments (C , C#, JavaScript)
- Familiarity with open‑source software management and licensing
- Experience working in regulated or compliance‑driven environments (SOC 2, ISO 27001)
