Press Secretary

Everytown for Gun Safety is hiring a digital-savvy Press Secretary to join our communications team. Responsibilities include managing relationships in key states, particularly around our state legislative work and electoral engagement work. Importantly, this position will support the communications department in expanding its reach beyond traditional forms of media, helping with outreach to non-traditional forms of media, including podcasts, newsletters, and digital streamers. This position includes extensive writing and editing responsibilities, as well as direct engagement with journalists on both reactive and proactive media relations. This position is located in our NY or DC office, with a hybrid work schedule.WE TRUST YOU TO:Show expertise in crafting messaging around priority campaignsDevelop and grow relationships with key journalists and influential voices in traditional and digital media Support our political communications work for the 2026 midterms by pitching stories on key themes and races, and working to make gun safety a key issue in the midterm electionsDevelop comprehensive communications strategies, planning around major moments and finding opportunities to get our message front and centerYOU WILL HAVE:Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to create dynamic, persuasive communications materials – including press releases, talking points, op-eds, remarks, creator briefing materials, communication plansFour or more years of proven communications and media relations experience, especially in the digital media ecosystem Experience working in a campaign-like environmentComfortable learning and explaining complex policy issues to reporters Comfortable working under tight deadlines and juggling multiple projects at onceBilingual candidates, particularly those with oral and written fluency in Spanish, will be strongly considered The salary range for this position is $80,000-$90,000 per year.
