Landfill Engineer – Solid Waste (Junior or Senior Level)

We're partnering with a well-established, employee-owned engineering consultancy with a solid waste practice dating back to 1983 to find two Landfill Engineers for their Richmond team. These roles have opened due to a recent departure and offer a genuine opportunity to work on a distinctive, well-resourced municipal solid waste practice, including an in-house landfill operator training program that sets this team apart.
Work spans expansion cells, closures and caps, liners, leachate and gas collection systems, stormwater conveyance and controls, and large-scale earthwork across municipal solid waste landfill design and permitting programs in Virginia. We're open to candidates at both junior and senior level.
What you'll be doing – Senior level
- Leading design packages covering grading, liner/leachate/gas systems, and stormwater
- Preparing specs, cost estimates, technical reports, and permit submittals
- Coordinating with clients, regulators, and contractors
- Mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with engineering leadership
- Civil 3D production including H&H and pump sizing calculations
What you'll be doing – Junior level
- Supporting design production under senior direction
- Assisting with technical reports, permit submittals, and quantity/cost take-offs
- QA/QC support and drawing markups
- Civil 3D plans, profiles, and quantity work
What we're looking for – Senior level
- 10 to 15 years total engineering experience, 5 years in solid waste
- Experience with mass earthwork/grading, stormwater management, and liner/leachate and gas system design
- Active PE license (or eligible for Virginia reciprocity), required
- Strong Civil 3D proficiency and client-facing communication skills
What we're looking for – Junior level
- Civil engineering or land development background
- No prior solid waste experience required
- PE preferred but not required; EIT or working toward PE welcomed
- Solid foundation in site/civil design, grading, and stormwater principles
Compensation
- Junior level: $90,000 to $100,000 (DOE)
- Senior level: $120,000 to $140,000 (DOE)
- Employee-owned firm (ESOP)
Salary : $100,000 - $140,000
