Evergreen Youth & Family Services is seeking a compassionate, adaptable, and mission-driven individual to serve as a Family Coach at our Youth Crisis Shelter (ages 9-17). Evergreen exists to support youth and families through relationship-based, trauma-informed, and community-centered services that honor dignity, promote equity, and strengthen families. This position plays a key role in supporting caregivers and youth through assessment, coaching, advocacy, and aftercare services that promote safety, stability, and resilience. JOB TITLE: Family Coach
STATUS: Full-time, non-exempt
WORK SCHEDULE: Varies. Includes some evenings
SUPERVISOR: Shelter Program Director
SUMMARY: The Family Coach provides culturally responsive, strengths-based support services to youth and families in Bemidji and surrounding communities. This role focuses on prevention, intervention, and aftercare through safety and needs assessments, de-escalation, parent skill-building, advocacy, referrals, and coordination with community partners. The Family Coach also contributes to staff training, case consultation, documentation, data tracking, and reporting. The position requires frequent use of audio-visual skills (approximately 95% of work time).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Family Support & Service Delivery
- Provide individual and family coaching and support services to youth and caregivers using strengths-based, trauma-informed approaches.
- Conduct safety, strengths, and needs assessments; provide timely referrals when services fall outside program scope.
- Facilitate individual and small-group parenting education and skill-building activities.
- Provide advocacy and crisis support for youth and families, including victims of crime, and coordinate services with external systems.
- Oversee and deliver Aftercare Program services, including follow-up with former clients and documentation of outcomes.
Collaboration, Consultation & Community Engagement
- Provide case consultation and technical assistance to agency staff to support effective youth and family interventions.
- Collaborate with community partners including schools, law enforcement, probation, tribal programs, and county and state agencies.
- Conduct outreach and engagement activities in Bemidji and surrounding communities to strengthen referral pathways.
- Participate in community education initiatives related to parenting, child development, and youth behavior.
Documentation, Data & Program Support
- Develop, maintain, and secure accurate client files, case notes, and program records in compliance with data privacy requirements.
- Prepare written behavioral observations, assessments, summaries, and correspondence for supervisors and community partners.
- Assist with program evaluation, data collection, analysis, and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reports required by the agency and funding sources.
Training, Compliance & Agency Support
- Participate consistently in supervision, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Support Program Directors in identifying staff training needs and implementing evidence-informed practices.
- Ensure compliance with mandated reporting laws; DHS licensing requirements; HIPAA; and the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.
- Assist with Evergreen Shelter operations as needed (e.g., answering phones, floor coverage, intake assistance).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services–related field or certification as a Parent Coach from a reputable program or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with children, youth, and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed, family-centered, and culturally responsive practices.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and relational skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries and exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and occasional Saturdays.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and required insurance coverage (must qualify for agency auto insurance).

- Ability to meet background screening, reference checks, and substance testing requirements.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related human services field.
- Experience in shelter-based services, aftercare, or community-based family support
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing maintenance duties, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use his or her hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is also required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl in order to conduct building checks and make repairs. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. This employee must be able to lift 35 pounds.
