What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Manager, Design & Build position at Evergreen Renovations and Roofing?
The work is award-winning. Now we need someone to scale it.
Evergreen Renovations just took home two Structure & Style awards from Oregon Home magazine: Major Home Remodel ($300K to $500K) and Bathroom Remodel ($125K to $175K). The design and craftsmanship are proven. So is the reputation, with a deep base of 5-star reviews behind it.
What we don't have yet is the engine to match. Demand is outrunning our current structure, and we are investing in the Design & Build division and hiring a General Manager to develop, expand and scale up this side of the business.
This is a role for one who wants to help build the company. The foundation is already here: a talented design and production team, award-winning work, and a reputation clients prefer. You are not rebuilding anything. You are adding to it: more capacity, a sales process that scales, production systems, and a scoreboard that takes a proven division to its next level. If you have run residential design-build or custom home operations and want to own a division with real authority and real upside, this is the job.
The GM reports directly to the CEO and will sit on the leadership team.
What you will own
Full P&L responsibility for the design & build division: sales, design, production, people, and growth. Our core work is whole-home remodels, kitchens, baths, additions, and ADUs, with growth focused on $100K projects.
You will:
● Build and execute the growth plan for the division, with clear revenue, margin, and backlog targets.
● Lead business development and sales: own new-business strategy, build and coach a sales/design consultants team, lead the design team and create a repeatable process from first call to signed contract. One of our owners remains active with his long-standing referral clients, so you start with a producing partner and a warm book, not a cold one.
● Expand a strong existing team: recruit, hire, and develop additional designers, project managers, and field leaders as the division scales
● Own production performance: scheduling, job costing, change orders, and on-time, on-budget delivery
● Manage to an annual budget and report weekly on the numbers that matter
● Install the systems and standards the division runs on, then hold the team to them
● Protect the client experience and the quality bar that won the awards, from first conversation through final walkthrough
● Represent Evergreen Renovations in the Portland community and with trade and design partners
What success looks like
● Year-over-year revenue growth at healthy gross margins
● A sales/design consultant team and new business pipeline that grow well beyond referrals
● Jobs that finish on schedule, on budget, and with a 5-star review
● A bench of leaders you hired and developed
● Growth that raises the quality bar instead of diluting it
Who you are
● 7 years in residential design & build remodeling or custom home construction, including time leading sales, design and production.
● You have owned a P&L, or a number big enough that it felt like one
● Strong in design, estimating, budgeting, and construction project management
● You have scaled a team, understand the design process, adding people and structure without losing what made it good
● Comfortable with accountability, for yourself and for others, and willing to have direct conversations
● Systems-minded: you would rather fix the process than fight the same fire twice
● Confident and decisive, without needing to be the smartest person in the room
Compensation and benefits
● Base salary of $130,000 to $150,000, depending on experience
● Performance bonus tied to division revenue and gross margin. On-target total compensation is $200,000 , with no cap.
● Benefits: medical/dental/vision, PTO, 401(k), gas card
