Maintenance Technician (Florida City, FL)
Job Summary:
Rural Neighborhoods, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit housing and community development organization, is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform and support a variety of maintenance activities within a housing community. This role is essential to ensuring operational success while providing residents with excellent customer service through the prompt completion of work order requests.
The Maintenance Technician must demonstrate strong attention to detail and possess solid knowledge of repairing and replacing household appliances, as well as electrical and plumbing fixtures. Strong problem-solving skills, good deductive reasoning, and the ability to work independently are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Complete maintenance requests and projects while maintaining property grounds and office areas in a clean condition.
- Inspect property grounds daily and remove trash and debris.
- Create a welcoming environment for residents by ensuring units are well-maintained through timely work order completion, general repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspections.
- Perform appliance troubleshooting, light plumbing and electrical repairs, light carpentry, window repairs, preparation and painting of vacant units, and basic HVAC maintenance and repairs.
- Assist colleagues at sister properties and support management as needed.
- Provide cross-coverage to ensure urgent issues are addressed promptly.
- Be available for emergency response, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as part of a rotating or on-call team.
- Complete full turnover of vacant units.
- Maintain inventory of parts and supplies and assess materials needed for property upkeep and unit turnover.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience Requirements:
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Minimum of two (2) years of basic property maintenance experience.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and current insurance.
- Ability to assess problems and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, as needed to support property operations.
- Comfortable using computers and smart devices.
- Ability to check and respond to email daily.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry items over 20 lbs.
Job Type:
Full-time, hourly, non-exempt.
