Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Technical Mentor / Software Engineering Tutor to deliver onsite instruction and mentorship to early-career developers and bootcamp students. The role combines practical teaching, one-on-one coaching, and real-world software development guidance to help learners gain job-ready skills. The ideal candidate is patient, communicative, and proficient in building web applications (preferably with Ruby on Rails) and comfortable demonstrating concepts using JavaScript and Python.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver instructor-led workshops, labs, and coding sessions onsite, translating complex engineering concepts into clear, actionable lessons.
• Provide one-on-one mentorship and career coaching, including code review, pair programming, and personalized learning plans to accelerate students progress.
• Develop, update, and maintain course materials, exercises, and assessment rubrics that reflect current industry practices and standards.
• Design and run practical assessments and project evaluations to measure competency and readiness for technical roles.
• Demonstrate best practices in software engineering: testing, version control (Git), debugging, deployment, and collaborative workflows.
• Collaborate with hiring teams, curriculum designers, and program staff to align training outcomes with employer needs and job market trends.
• Create an inclusive, supportive learning environment that encourages questions, experimentation, and growth.
• Troubleshoot development environments and provide technical support during onsite labs and projects.
• Collect and act on feedback from learners and stakeholders to continuously improve instructional delivery and curriculum content.
• Represent the program in career events, employer meetings, and candidate interviews when requested.

Qualifications

• 5 years of professional software development experience or equivalent industry background.
• Proven experience mentoring, tutoring, or teaching technical topics to diverse learners; comfort leading group sessions and one-on-one coaching.
• Practical experience building web applications; strong familiarity with Ruby on Rails is highly preferred.
• Proficient in JavaScript and comfortable demonstrating or tutoring Python for backend scripting and tooling.
• Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, web architecture, databases, testing, and deployment.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and patiently.

  Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to give constructive feedback and motivate learners.
