The Chemistry Lab Operations Coordinator will oversee operations across two early-stage discovery laboratories. This role is critical to enabling scientists to focus on breakthrough research by ensuring seamless lab operations, maintaining instrument uptime, and optimizing workflows. You'll be the operational backbone of the lab, managing everything from complex instrumentation to day-to-day consumables and collaboration with operations partners such as lab safety.
Key Responsibilities
Instrumentation Management & Maintenance:
The Chemistry Lab Operations Coordinator will oversee operations across two early-stage discovery laboratories. This role is critical to enabling scientists to focus on breakthrough research by ensuring seamless lab operations, maintaining instrument uptime, and optimizing workflows. You'll be the operational backbone of the lab, managing everything from complex instrumentation to day-to-day consumables and collaboration with operations partners such as lab safety.
Key Responsibilities
Instrumentation Management & Maintenance:
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and repairs for all laboratory instruments, including oligonucleotide synthesizers, FPLC/AKTA systems, HPLC/UPLC systems, chromatography systems (Biotage/Isco), KF instruments, balances, and automation equipment.
- Serve as primary liaison with instrument service vendors and repair technicians.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation issues and perform hands-on maintenance when appropriate.
- Prepare buffers, eluents, and mobile phases for all purification instruments.
- Maintain instrument logs and service records.
- Manage inventory systems for oligonucleotides, amidites, reagents, and chemicals across both labs.
- Implement sample management and tracking systems.
- Coordinate the ordering of synthesizer reagent bottles, anhydrous solvents, and instrument-specific consumables.
- Make independent purchasing decisions for routine supplies and consumables.
- Receive, organize, and distribute incoming chemicals and packages.
- Serve as Safety Representative for all labs, conducting regular inspections and driving compliance.
- Optimize storage and organization of chemicals, samples, and materials.
- Manage laboratory Maximum Allowable Quantities (MAQs).
- Collaborate with scientists to continuously improve lab layout and workflow efficiency.
- Ensure proper waste management and disposal procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce instrument downtime.
- Develop systems and protocols for inventory management and sample tracking.
- Proactively anticipate supply needs to prevent work disruptions.
- Recommend improvements to laboratory infrastructure and processes.
