About the Position
ETM-CO is seeking a Woodwind Specialist to serve as Assistant Band Director alongside the current Band Director/Brass Specialist at two Denver schools. This role focuses on teaching beginning woodwind students within an existing band program.
This is a part-time position (approximately two hours per week) teaching beginning woodwinds to students in grades 5–8 who have elected to participate. If the program is successful in retaining students and growing their musicianship, the position may continue into subsequent school years.
Instruments and curriculum books will be provided. The candidate will design and implement standards-based instruction in consultation with ETM-CO program staff, with support from the ETM-CO Instructional Supervisor. Lesson planning is required and will be reviewed on a regular basis.
Schedule and Compensation
- Schedule: Tuesdays from 1:00–1:40 PM at Whittier ECE-8 and 4:00–5:00 PM at Morey Middle School
- Wages: $40–50 per hour. Compensation covers teaching time as well as any planning and communication needed for the role. Most weeks will be approximately 2 hours; some may be more.
- Additional paid sessions: Instrument petting zoo prior to program launch; one concert or performance at each school per semester
- Location: In person, Denver, CO 80205. Must be able to reliably commute.
Responsibilities
- Teach a standards-based music curriculum to students in ways that are relevant and appropriately rigorous
- Engage diverse learners and cultivate a classroom environment that supports students’ social-emotional needs
- Collaborate with the Band Director/Brass Specialist to grow and strengthen the band program
- Maintain instrument inventories and coordinate repairs as needed
- Plan and produce one concert or performance per semester at each school
- Engage in a regular process of lesson planning, feedback, revision, and goal-setting
- Collaborate with ETM-CO staff, school administrators, and parents
- Build relationships with students and families, inviting them as partners in their music education

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Education, or Fine Arts
- Proficiency in musical literacy and performance on woodwind instruments
- Excellent communication skills and comfort working with students, parents, and school staff
- Commitment to culturally responsive teaching, equity, and inclusive music education
Preferred:
- Music Education degree or teaching certification
- Previous music teaching experience
- Training in Modern Band by Music Will
Non-licensed candidates may be asked to demonstrate proficiency with a score of 161 or higher on the PRAXIS 5113 test.
Finalists may be asked to teach a lesson geared toward the students and content of the position.
Background Check
Prior to receiving an official offer, finalists will be asked to undergo a fingerprinting and background check with the FBI and CBI and have those results sent directly to ETM-CO. Only those with a clear background check are eligible for hire.
