Emergency Veterinary Assistant

The Florida Veterinary Referral Center (FVRC) in Estero, FL is hiring part-time or full-time Veterinary Assistants to join our outstanding Emergency team!

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• General cleaning of the hospital includes but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, dusting, laundry, window cleaning, emptying trash, and bathroom cleaning. Keep hospital supplies well stocked.
• Set up and keep kennels sanitary, orderly, and free of odors. Feed, bathe, restrain, administer medications to patients, and perform TPRs as directed, with indirect supervision from Veterinary Technicians.
• Assist with restraint for radiographs and ultrasounds, cleaning and set up of surgical suites, and cross training for front office receptionist duties. Assist clients as needed with their pets in the hospital or out to the client’s car.
• Learn and be able to demonstrate progress/proficiency throughout the year on FVRC Level Skills, hospital policies, medication calculations, and medication terminology and abbreviations, with support from the Nurse Supervisor.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience with basic veterinary knowledge, including restraint, diagnostic imaging, surgical equipment, laboratory equipment and procedures, etc. preferred 
• Attention to detail, with strong communication skills with both clients and team members
• Ability to lift 40 pounds, walk, bend, stand, and reach consistently during a minimum 8-hour day. With fine motor skills adequate for utilizing hospital equipment such as electric clippers, syringes, radiology equipment, laboratory equipment, computers, etc.
• Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) are required; fluency in multiple languages is a plus
