Responsibilities
The Doctor Liaison (DL) is a critical member of the medical support team, ideally filled by an experienced
floor supervisor whenever scheduling and staffing allow. This role requires constant collaboration with the
patient care team and proactive, consistent communication with clients throughout their pet’s visit. The
DL ensures accurate information flow, smooth case progression, and exceptional client experience in a
fast-paced emergency and specialty environment.

Responsibilities

- This position functions as a communication and coordination hub, requiring continuous presence on the
- Doctor Liasons are expected to maintain situational awareness of patient condition updates, diagnostic
- Responsible for integrating operational oversight with client-facing responsibilities to improve cash flow
Client Communication & Education
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients during their pet’s hospitalization
- Provide timely updates regarding patient status, procedures, and next steps
- Educate clients on treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care as directed by medical staff
- Always demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills
- Interact professionally with clients and fellow staff members
- Provide compassionate support during emergency and critical situations
- Participate in medical rounds to ensure continuity of care for patients
- Support all aspects of patient care
- Assist DVMs with clinical and non-clinical duties
- Submit specialty laboratory tests and ensure proper documentation
- Track patient progress and ensure accurate recordkeeping
- Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharge processes
- Communicate effectively with all team members to ensure seamless workflow
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Maintain professionalism and an exemplary work ethic
- Demonstrate punctuality and reliability
- Maintain knowledge of medical terminology relevant to veterinary medicine
- Respect and protect the confidentiality of client and patient information
- Assist with additional tasks as assigned by hospital leadership
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities effectively
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the hospital for extended periods
- Comfortable working in an emergency and critical care environment
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in veterinary medicine, healthcare, or client service preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
- Proficiency with computer systems and electronic medical records
- Experience in a veterinary emergency or specialty hospital
- Familiarity with specialty diagnostics and laboratory submissions
