JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Position Title: Case Manager, Refugee Resettlement & Integration
Reports to: Resettlement Services Program Manager
Status: Full-Time/Exempt
Location: Wausau, WI
Job Summary: The Case Manager provides trauma-informed services to support a positive resettlement experience and the achievement of client self-sufficiency. The successful applicant will work closely with clients, colleagues, and external parties to develop service and self-sufficiency plans to meet individual client needs and preferences utilizing a broad range of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services and resources in accordance with client eligibility and program requirements. This position will be trained especially to assist refugees and asylees in the areas of job placement and transportation.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate timely pre- and post-arrival services to ensure each client has living essentials such as housing, food, medical care, and access to transportation, and is oriented to their new environment.
- Perform intake assessments with clients to understand their unique backgrounds, skills, strengths and barriers and incorporate that information into a family/individual self-sufficiency plan.
- Provide individualized support through direct services, referrals, and advocacy.
- Assist clients in developing household budgets to understand cost of living and income needs.
- Coordinate with local employment agencies to assist with job search and job placement.
- Communicate with local employers to identify job placement opportunities that suit the skills and needs of refugee clients.
- Support clients in the employment onboarding process, ensuring clear communication and HR requirements are understood.
- Develop a strategy to assist clients with transportation barriers, including assistance with navigating public transportation when available.
- Transport clients in personal or agency-owned vehicles when necessary.
- Apply knowledge of local resources and coordinate referrals with partner agencies according to needs and goals.
- Provide general assistance to clients as needed, according to scope of services for eligible programs.
- Coordinate with local volunteers to meet various client needs.
- Collaborate professionally with other MCC case managers to address client needs and issues in a team-based, program-driven setting.
2) Documentation & Reporting
- Complete documentation within required timelines, following standard practices and regulations.
- Input client information in database(s) and spreadsheets.
- Document client interactions through service entries and case notes, in accordance with program requirements.
- Maintain orderly electronic and physical case files for all clients.
- File required documents in case files in accordance with program requirements.
- Provide monthly, database-generated service reports to funders/partners.
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field preferred; may substitute equivalent experience.
- Compassionate, sensitive and comfortable in a multicultural human services context.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively.
- Ability to work well as part of a dynamic case management team and maintain a positive, solution-focused outlook.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines in a self-directed fashion.
- Ability to relate professionally to, and collaborate with, diverse individuals in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to occasionally work evening or weekend hours
- Background check and DMV record.
- Access to own transportation, current driver’s license and insurance.
Environmental Factors: Work is primarily indoors in a climate-controlled building.
Physical Demands: Moderate physical activity, which includes standing, sitting, walking and lifting items (up to 50lbs).Ability to see within normal parameters.Ability to hear within normal parameters.Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
Contact with Others: Position involves regular contact with ECDC MCC staff, area employers, and representatives from the WI Bureau of Refugee Programs.
