Essex Brownell is seeking a highly motivated Material Planner to join our Procurement team. In this role, you will manage planning and purchasing of materials to optimize cost, availability, and inventory turns. The role ensures supplier compliance, meets daily purchasing needs, maintains accurate inventory controls, and works with sales/marketing to keep forecasts current and materials delivered on time.

Planning and purchasing of materials for distribution following established policies and procedures that optimize cost, material availability and inventory turns. The Planner/Buyer will manage supplier compliance, establish and meet daily purchasing requirements, develop/utilize a system of controls to monitor and maintain inventory levels to ensure that material requires are fulfilled successfully and in a timely manner. The position will work closely with sales/marketing to develop and maintain and accurate forecast.

- Supplier compliance management
- Monitor inventory levels and adjust as necessary; minimize material stock outs
- Analyzes reported material demands and reorder prompts
- Procures materials from approved supply sources in a timely manner
- Monitors and reports on material shelf life expiration reports to minimize potential inventory loss; monitors inventory to identify and reduce potential surplus and obsolete material
- Maximizes inventory turns
- Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in Business, Logistics or a related field
- Three to four years of related experience in a distribution/manufacturing environment
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Process organizing and coordinating skills. Strong attention to detail, sound business judgment and strong planning and organization skills required.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse business community.
- Must be team focused individual as exhibited in actions and approach.
- Must be flexible in a dynamic environment to change practices or procedures in order to deliver optimum performance.
- Advanced application skills in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word in addition to functional knowledge of all other Microsoft Office programs
- QAD and Cyberquery experience preferred by not required
