ecares health is a healthcare technology startup spun out of Essen Health Care, a large multispecialty provider group in the Bronx. We're building the care coordination OS that brings concierge medicine to underserved communities. Our platform powers proactive outreach, intelligent care programs, and automated scheduling, helping provider groups ensure no patient falls through the cracks.
Through our unique relationship with Essen Health Care, we have access to clinical and operational experts who help drive our product strategy and refine our vision. Our platform is currently live with active users at Essen, and we are finalizing expansion to more practices across New York City in the coming months.

Healthcare is full of absurd complexity a patient has two tax IDs, three insurance plans, referrals that expire in ways that don't make sense, and an EHR that was built in 1999. A clinical rule that sounds simple ("high-risk diabetes patients should see endocrinology every 90 days") touches eligibility logic, scheduling constraints, provider credentialing, and half a dozen integrations.
There are a hundred health tech startups with AI in their names, but few are interested in leveraging LLMs, and other cutting-edge technology, to build the operational infrastructure that makes care coordination work. And none are as committed as we are to the belief that technology is society's strongest lever to improve health at a population level.
Position Title Software Engineer
The role
We're hiring Software Engineers to join our founding engineering team. You'll take well-scoped technical work from our principal engineers and ship it, end to end features, integrations, bug fixes, infrastructure improvements. You'll work across the full stack, and you'll have full ownership over what you build.

Instead of scheduling a user research session, you can walk down the block and see someone using what you built.
Hybrid 3 days on-site, 2 days remote.

What You’ll Own
The work here spans the full platform. Some examples of what you might be building in a given week
- Implementing clinical rules that determine which patients need outreach and for what (e.g., a diabetic patient who hasn't seen endocrinology in 6 months)
- Building AI automations that interact with payor and Medicaid systems to understand and leverage insurance benefits on behalf of patients
- Working on EHR integrations that pull patient data, push appointment updates, and keep systems in sync
- Using LLMs to deliver critical patient context to care coordinators so they can educate and engage patients
- Improving infrastructure API performance, data pipelines, deployment tooling, test coverage
What We’re Looking For
- 2 years of professional software engineering experience
- Comfortable working across the stack, backend and frontend
- Strong fundamentals data structures, system design basics, debugging, writing testable code
- Self-directed and comfortable with focused, independent work
- Thorough. You think through edge cases, write tests, and care about getting it right
- Excited to own features and work with the team to deliver them our users
Nice to have
- Health tech or healthcare experience
- Experience with EHR systems or healthcare data
- Experience working in compliance-heavy or regulated environments
- Familiarity with Azure cloud services
- Background working with underserved communities or in mission-driven organizations
