ESS Clean is looking for a Working Supervisor – Janitorial Operations to oversee cleaning teams and customer facilities in the Peoria, Illinois area. This is a hands-on supervisory position. You'll be responsible for leading employees, maintaining cleaning quality, training team members, and supporting customer accounts – but you'll also regularly step in to perform cleaning work when employees are absent or positions are vacant.

What You'll Do

• Supervise, train, coach, and support cleaning associates assigned to multiple customer locations
• Travel between assigned accounts to inspect work and ensure ESS Clean's quality standards are being met
• Train new employees and provide ongoing or corrective training as needed
• Help employees understand proper cleaning methods, equipment use, chemical handling, and safe work practices
• Respond to cleaning quality concerns and work with employees and customers to resolve problems
• Set up and support new customer accounts
• Monitor supplies, equipment, and organization at assigned facilities
• Complete employee performance reviews and provide feedback and direction
• Communicate with branch leadership regarding staffing, quality, customer concerns, and other operational needs
• Fill in for employee absences and open positions by performing the full duties of a general cleaner
• Perform cleaning tasks including vacuuming, mopping, restroom cleaning, trash removal, dusting, disinfecting, floor care, and other routine commercial cleaning duties

What We're Looking For

• Two years of supervisory experience
• Ability to lead employees respectfully while setting clear expectations and holding people accountable
• Dependability, initiative, and the ability to work independently
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage changing priorities
• Ability and willingness to perform hands-on janitorial work as part of the position
• Willingness to learn the ins and outs of commercial cleaning -- we’ll train you on our methods, equipment, products, and safety practices
• Ability to communicate professionally with employees, customers, and leadership
• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to travel regularly between customer locations
• Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as required

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position. Working Supervisors must be able to perform the same physical work required of the cleaning associates they supervise, including frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, carrying, vacuuming, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The position may require the use of backpack vacuums, floor machines, carpet extractors, automatic scrubbers, and other commercial cleaning equipment.

What to Expect

Our Working Supervisors are responsible for making sure our clients’ buildings get cleaned – even when the original plan for the night changes. That may mean coaching an employee through a performance issue one day, inspecting several buildings the next, training a new cleaner, responding to a customer concern, or personally covering a cleaning assignment when someone calls off. This role is a good fit for someone who doesn't believe leadership means standing on the sidelines. We need someone who can lead the work and do the work when needed.
