Job Description: A highly skilled technician specializing in component-level electronic repairs, the Soldering Electronics Technician applies advanced soldering techniques and electronics knowledge to repair, maintain, and modify electronic equipment at the circuit board level. The incumbent must demonstrate expertise in soldering SMD/through-hole components, reading complex schematics and wire diagrams, and performing precision electronic repairs. This role requires working independently on moderately complex repair orders with normal to critical deadlines, troubleshooting circuit-level problems, and performing component replacement and modifications on electronic computing and communications equipment.
Essential Job Duties
- Performs advanced soldering operations including SMD/SMT component removal and installation, wire harness assembly, and circuit board repairs using professional soldering equipment
- Interprets and works from complex schematics, wire diagrams, and technical drawings to diagnose circuit-level problems and perform accurate repairs
- Conducts component-level troubleshooting using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialized test equipment to identify faulty components and circuits
- Performs bench-level preventive maintenance, component replacement, and precision repairs to sub-assembly and integrated circuit levels
- Reads and follows detailed technical documentation, service manuals, and schematic diagrams
- Sets up, assembles, installs, and modifies electronic hardware using advanced hand tools, precision instruments, and professional soldering stations
- Creates and maintains accurate work order documentation including detailed schematics, wire diagrams, and repair logs
- Ensures quality control standards for all soldering work and electronic repairs meeting IPC standards
Education and Typical Years Experience Vocational, trade school, military technical training, or associate degree in electronics/electrical technology with required certification in soldering (IPC-A-610 or equivalent). 3-5 years progressively responsible experience demonstrating expertise in component-level electronics repair, advanced soldering techniques, and proficiency in reading schematics and wire diagrams.
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8am-5pm
