What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Inspector position at ESI Motion?
ESI Motion is seeking a highly skilled and detail‑oriented Quality Assurance Inspector specializing in PCBA and solder inspection in a fast‑paced advanced technology environment. This individual will work under the guidance of the Quality Manager and will play a critical role in ensuring product quality through rigorous inspection of electronic assemblies in accordance with J‑STD‑001, IPC‑A‑610, and related aerospace standards.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent along with 3 years of recent experience in electronics manufacturing quality inspection, specifically in solder workmanship and PCBA inspection. A strong working knowledge of J‑STD‑001 (including Space Addendum) and IPC‑610 is required. A current J-STD-001 and IPC-610 certification is a plus. They will have practical experience working within Quality Management Systems (AS9100 and ISO 9001). We are looking for an intelligent, technically savvy and trustworthy individual, with an exceptional ability to multi-task and support companywide activities.
Responsibilities:
- Approves incoming materials by confirming specifications, reviewing CofC, conducting visual and measurement tests, rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
- Performs detailed solder joint inspection on PCBAs in accordance with J‑STD‑001, J‑STD‑001S (Space Addendum), and IPC‑A‑610.
- Performs complete layout inspection by locating reference points and measuring dimensions using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicator to ensure product meets specifications.
- Performs and documents first article inspections.
- Performs inspection and verification on incoming, in-process and outgoing products including harnesses, machined parts, PCBs, and PCBAs.
- Uses microscopes, measurement tools, and inspection instruments to validate assembly workmanship.
- Visually compares work products against one another to assess/detect manufacturing variations.
- Reports quality problems or findings to the Quality Manager and follows up to ensure that corrective action has/will take place.
- Identifies and documents defects, workmanship issues, and non‑conformances, ensuring proper coding, traceability, and escalation to the Quality Manager.
- Assists in ESD verification of workstations and quarterly calibration requirements.
Additional Skills/Qualifications:
- pcMRP experience preferred but not required
- Previous J-STD-001 certification required
- Previous J-STD-001S Space Addendum certification required
- IPC-610 certification required
- NASA-STD-8739.4 certification or training preferred but not required
- NASA-STD-8739.1 certification or training preferred but not required
- ANSI/ESD S20.20 knowledge required
- FOD knowledge and understanding required
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints/drawings and understand tolerance
- Basic math and geometry/trigonometry
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- A hands-on, “get it done” attitude
- Ability to work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines
- Knowledge of Microsoft products including Windows, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
- Excellent oral and written English skills
- U.S. citizen or resident status
