The Recreation Specialist is responsible for the supervision, coordination, planning, development, and evaluation of community recreation programs in a specific area of recreation occurring at various community recreation facilities; or provides multipurpose facility supervision supporting a specific area of recreation occurring at various facilities; and performs related duties as required.


Position is located at the Equestrian Center.
Positions assigned to the Equestrian Center require flexible working hours.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs both indoor and outdoor work as required by events and operations.

Completes general office duties such as answering phones, filing, and providing administrative support.

Assists with event setup, cleanup, and overall preparation.

Provides customer service and interacts regularly with the public, both in the office and on the grounds.

Works in close proximity to livestock, dogs, and other animals.

Handles funds and maintains the ability/clearance required for monetary transactions.


TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualification Requirements:


Training and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), and up to one year recreation or event experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Florida Driver's license

CPR certification


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs):

word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and other recreation related computer software

problem solving

communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

manage/supervise facility events

work under stressful situations and to stay calm

maintain records and prepare reports

work evenings, night shifts, split shifts, weekends, and some holidays

establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public, news Media and other departments and agencies

respond to conflicts in policies and regulations and community concerns

ability to conduct on-site inspections at event facility

follow written and oral instructions

communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

collaborate with outside entities to accomplish mission and goals

work well with youth and adults of all ages

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
This position typically requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity, and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
