Position Summary
We are a growing marine, steel, and vinyl company seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Cost Accountant to support our financial operations. This role is ideal for someone experienced in manufacturing environments with strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory control, BOMs, QuickBooks Enterprise, and transactional workflows such as sales quotes and purchase orders.
This individual will work closely with the CFO to ensure accurate cost data, maintain inventory integrity, support operational decision-making, and assist with administrative tasks that keep the business running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting
- Develop, maintain, and update standard costs, including materials, labor, and overhead allocations.
- Prepare cost variance reports and analyze material, labor, and overhead variances.
- Maintain accurate job costing, WIP tracking, and production cost summaries.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis related to production and materials.
- Assist with cost models for new product lines, assemblies, or custom builds.
Inventory & BOM Management
- Maintain and update Bills of Materials (BOMs), build assemblies, ensuring accuracy of components, labor routing, and overhead costs.
- Oversee inventory control, including tracking usage, receipts, transfers, and adjustments.
- Perform monthly inventory reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and support cycle counts/physical inventory.
- Monitor scrap, rework, and material waste and ensure proper cost capture.
Sales Quotes & Purchasing Support
- Prepare or assist in preparing sales quotes, ensuring accurate cost inputs and pricing assumptions.
- Manage or support purchase order creation, tracking, and reconciliation.
- Work closely with operations, sales, and purchasing to ensure alignment on materials, costs, and lead times.
- Evaluate vendor pricing and provide cost insights for purchasing decisions.
Administrative & Accounting Support
- Provide administrative support including document management, customer and vendor communication, and coordination of job files.
- Support general office functions such as organizing records, preparing reports, and assisting leadership with various tasks.
- Contribute to improving financial workflows, processes, and system accuracy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3 years experience in cost accounting at a manufacturing company.
- Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Enterprise.
- Experience working with BOMs, production costing, job costing, and inventory systems.
- Solid understanding of GAAP as it relates to manufacturing and inventory.
- Strong Excel and analytical skills; able to manipulate data and build cost models.
- Experience with sales quotes, purchase orders, and transactional accounting workflows.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy; able to investigate discrepancies and solve problems.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and work independently.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in marine, steel, metal fabrication, or custom manufacturing industries.
- Familiarity with production workflows and manufacturing terminology.
- Knowledge of inventory software or job-shop workflows.
- Ability to assist the CFO with ad-hoc reporting, KPI dashboards, and cost-improvement project.
Pay: $62,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
