Position summary
The Facilities Technician performs hands-on maintenance, repair, and support activities within the facility to ensure buildings, equipment, utilities, and grounds remain safe, reliable, and operational. This role supports preventive and corrective maintenance work, responds to service requests, assists with facility projects, and helps maintain compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- General Facilities Maintenance:
- Performs routine inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on facility systems, equipment, and grounds.
- Completes assigned maintenance tasks, service requests, and work orders in a timely and thorough manner.
- Assists with preventive maintenance activities to reduce downtime and extend the life of facility assets.
- Follows all safety regulations, company policies, and standard operating procedures while performing maintenance work.
- Maintenance Operations:
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs facility systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, doors, fixtures, and other building components.
- Performs preventive and reactive maintenance tasks to support safe and efficient facility operations.
- Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, and facility-related issues and escalates complex repairs as needed.
- Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment, and tools.
- Documents completed work orders and maintenance activities accurately.
- Tools, Supplies, and Inventory Support:
- Uses tools, parts, and materials responsibly and reports supply needs to the appropriate leader.
- Assists with maintaining adequate inventory of spare parts, supplies, and maintenance materials.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Coordinates with production, operations, and other departments to complete maintenance work with minimal disruption.
- Communicates maintenance status, safety concerns, repair needs, and equipment issues to supervisors or appropriate contacts.
- May interact directly with building occupants to address service requests.
- Project Management:
- Assists with facility upgrades, equipment installations, renovations, moves, and other maintenance-related projects.
- Supports contractors and vendors by providing site access, communicating facility needs, and verifying work areas are safe and clean.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Follows applicable safety standards, codes, regulations, and organizational policies while performing assigned duties.
- Identifies and reports safety hazards, maintenance concerns, and potential compliance issues.
- Administrative & Reporting:
- Maintains detailed records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment performance, and material usage.
- Manages inventory of spare parts and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.
- May assist in gathering information for repair estimates, project needs, or maintenance planning.
- Assists in following and documenting maintenance operating procedures as directed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; relevant vocational training or technical certifications preferred.
- Previous experience in facilities maintenance, industrial maintenance, building maintenance, or a related hands-on maintenance role preferred.
- Working knowledge of one or more maintenance trades such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical repair preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical problems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices relevant to maintenance work.
- Good communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call for emergencies as needed.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and working in various environmental conditions.
