What are the responsibilities and job description for the VP Surgical Services position at Erlanger Health System?
Job Summary:
Provides leadership to ensure alignment of this division with Erlanger Health's (EH) mission, vision, values and strategic imperatives.
Aligns operational management with short and long-term planning that supports EH's Surgical Services' vision for growth and success.
Develops strategic and tactical plans for EH Surgical Services to achieve clinical excellence.
Oversee development of EH Surgical Services' capital and annual operating budgets to ensure appropriated allocation of resources, while identifying strategies to meet the required objectives and hold team members accountable.
Leading, monitoring and assisting division in productivity and operational efficiency.
Fostering an environment of teamwork, collaboration and mutual trust among physicians and administration.
Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, local regulations, EH policies and procedures.
Ensure service line quality in alignment with the division, the market and national quality standards including best demonstrated practice. (Clinical outcomes, credentialing/privileging, processes, services, customer/patient satisfaction).
Implement and lead a continuous quality improvement process focusing on systems and process improvement.
Develops, enhances, and implements policies and procedures that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of their division and the organization
Promotes and supports our academic partners, including our strong affiliation with UT College of Medicine.
Promotes a high performance culture; fosters a success-oriented, accountable environment
Motivates and leads a high-performance management team; attracts, recruits and retains required members of their management team; provides mentoring as a cornerstone to the management development program
Provides leadership and support to direct reports (management team) in the development and implementation of Leadership Performance plans.
Effectively partners and/or represents the health system with employees, customers, patients, physicians, business partners and other external constituencies
Effectively interacts with Board of Trustees, Board Committees and Senior Executive Leadership.

Education:
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Business, Healthcare Management or directly related area. Master's Degree in Business, Healthcare Management or directly related area (permissible to complete Master's degree within three to five years of employment if not held at the point of hire).
Preferred:
Current Master's Degree in Nursing, Business, Healthcare Management or directly related to area.
Experience:
Required:
At least five to ten years' experience in large complex health care system with progressively increasing responsibilities; with a minimum of five years in a managerial level position within a surgical services division.
Experienced collaborator with clinical disciplines to improve patient safety, quality, and an excellence of care model.
Proven surgical services leadership skills driving accountability
Demonstrated success in developing positive physician relationships and collaborations.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of current trends in health care delivery including the development of alternative delivery systems, performance improvement and quality clinical programs.
Extensive experience in developing and executing policy and procedures.
Preferred:
Experience working with non-profit entities to include board and leadership roles.
Experience working in an origination with multiple surgical locations & facilities.
Experience working in a Trauma Center
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
Registered Nurse licensed to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee.
The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.
Preferred:
Registered Nurse or other clinical license. CNOR certification, Involvement with local, regional and national healthcare associations/organizations.
