ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Medical Assistant (MA) will have guidance by a Nurse.
- In conjunction with the Nurse, the MA will maintain the database for individuals with key dates.
- Administrative responsibilities include scheduling and coordinating appointments and labs, medication pre-authorizations, gathering data and completing forms for medical necessity for medical equipment, interacting with insurance companies, ordering supplies and updating electronic forms and files.
- Coordinate and/ or schedule medical tests, appointments and communicate information to external entities, create consults, and coordinate with family members of upcoming appointments.
- Communicate with supervisors and providers regarding status of medical appointments and consultations.
- Communicate with hospitals, pharmacies and medical providers to ensure appropriate documentation and data is collected to meet Life Sharing regulations and requirements.
- Ability to professionally address situations and communications with health care providers and co-workers in an articulate, organized and efficient manner.
- Conduct medical and equipment pre-authorizations.
- Complete, (process) ACL lab requisitions and scheduling labs.
- Update EMar to maintain accurate Medication lists at all times.
- Participate in the HRST meetings and maintain diagnosis and medication lists in the HRST program.
- Coordinate the addition of Pharmacies to the EHR.
- Maintain accurate medical provider lists in the EHR.
- Assist with Life Sharing provider trainings on medical topics.
- Assist with individual assessments for medication self-administration.
- Assist with post-hospitalization visits to ensure continuity of medical care.
- Field insurance coverage-related concerns, questions, documentation, etc., for individuals.
- Travel to all EHCA Life Sharing and community locations as requested.
- Assist nurses with injections and immunizations as requested.
- Assist nurses with phlebotomy duties as requested.
- Maintain individual confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information.
- Other duties as assigned.
