Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:There is no civil service examination required for this position for the duration of the NY HELPS Program. Candidates must meet the minimum civil service qualifications for a NY HELPS appointment as follows:A) Graduation from High School or Vocational School or possession of a High School Equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience in commercial cleaning practice or general building maintenance including experience in any one (1) of the following trades; Carpentry, Electrical, H.V. and A.C. Systems, Plumbing; OR,B) Five (5) years of experience in commercial cleaning practices or general building maintenance, including experience in any one (1) of the following trades; Carpentry, Electrical, H.V. and A.C. Systems, Plumbing; OR,C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

- Directly supervises laborers and cleaners assigned to the Center.
- Secure building.
- Performs minor repairs, painting and maintenance tasks under the direction of the Head Custodian.
- Performs or arranges for the distribution of deliveries.
- Performs assigned cleaning tasks in and around buildings.
- Systematically observes buildings and grounds for abnormal conditions and reports to the Head Custodian.
- Maybe expected to drive a BOCES-owned vehicle.
- Other duties may be assigned that are relevant to the civil service job description for this title.
