Setup Machinist / Lead Machinist
Overview
Eric's Welding is seeking an experienced Setup Machinist / Lead Machinist to join our growing machine shop. This position is ideal for a highly skilled individual who can independently set up, program, and operate CNC equipment while helping oversee daily shop operations and maintaining high-quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have strong machining knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. We are looking for someone who takes pride in producing quality parts efficiently and can help improve shop processes as we continue to grow.
Please note: This position is currently structured as a 1099 Independent Contractor role.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathes and CNC mills for production and custom machining projects.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Select tooling, determine machining processes, and optimize setups for efficiency and quality.
- Program and edit CNC programs as needed.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and indicators.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality standards.
- Train and assist other shop personnel as needed.
- Help coordinate workflow and prioritize jobs to meet production schedules.
- Maintain equipment and ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Assist with manual machining operations when required.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of CNC machining experience preferred.
- Proven experience setting up CNC lathes and/or CNC mills independently.
- CNC programming experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, feeds, speeds, and workholding.
- Ability to read blueprints and hold tight tolerances.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus but not required.
