Environmental Specialist Responsibilities
- Coordinate and provide subject-matter ownership for all environmental duties associated with air, waste, and water compliance for the facility.
- Own the preparation, accuracy, and timely submittal of required regulatory reports including Title V, CEMS, Form R, and Emissions Inventory
- Daily and monthly calculation and tracking of refinery fuel gas usage, Reid Vapor Pressure of permitted tanks and sulfur content of emergency generator fuel oil and tracking of engine hours
- Maintain monthly inspection forms for drain hubs and junction boxes of process area sewer drains as required by title V Air Permit and subpart QQQ
- Exercises independent judgment in interpreting environmental requirements and recommending actions that impact regulatory compliance and operational risk
- Give guidance in remediation of releases to land and water and document releases
- Serve as the primary technical contact for reporting releases to regulatory authorities in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Ensure required record keeping is in order and up-to date
- Complete Emergency Response Training and perform duties as assigned
- Continually developing skills and knowledge through training
- Generate and maintain records of compliance with applicable regulations
- Give recommendations and guidance on activities affecting the environment
- Identify, recommend, and lead continuous improvement initiatives within the Environmental Management System to enhance compliance and performance.
- Maintain current Person-in Charge (PIC) list.
- High levels of Trust, Humility, Character, Integrity, Resolve, and Respect
- 3 years of experience in the refining or chemical processing industry, preferred
- Knowledge of EPA, MDEQ, DOT, and USCG standards relating to the refining industry
- Ability to independently interpret environmental regulations, discern applicability, and translate requirements into operational actions.
- Requires a self-motivated person that is detail-oriented with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels within an organization
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and industry partners
- Demonstrated technical leadership with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders through expertise and credibility.
- Ability to think strategically and simplify complex issues
- Excellent technical writing and presentation skills, preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
