Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Equine Veterinary Technician specializing in Ambulatory Services to join our team. This role involves providing high-quality veterinary care to equine patients in the field, supporting veterinarians during examinations and procedures, and ensuring the well-being of our animal clients. The ideal candidate will possess strong animal handling skills, veterinary experience, and a passion for equine health and welfare.
Duties
- Assist veterinarians during field examinations, treatments, and procedures on horses in various settings.
- Perform animal restraint using appropriate techniques to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Conduct animal catheterization, venipuncture, and other laboratory procedures as needed.
- Maintain detailed records of treatments, diagnostics, and patient histories in accordance with clinic protocols.
- Apply aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infections.
- Recognize signs of illness or distress in equine patients and communicate findings effectively.
- Assist with diagnostic imaging such as X-ray procedures when required.
- Educate pet owners on animal care, health maintenance, and post-treatment instructions.
- Support laboratory work including sample collection and processing.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment, vehicles and treatment areas.
Qualifications
- Previous experience with veterinary critical care, laboratory procedures, or equine handling is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, equine physiology, anatomy, and equine care practices.
- Experience with animal restraint techniques, catheterization, and aseptic procedures.
- Strong understanding of veterinary critical care practices and laboratory work including X-ray operation is preferred.
- Excellent animal handling skills with a focus on safety for animals and staff.
- Ability to work independently in ambulatory settings while maintaining communication with the veterinary team.
