Job Summary
The Grants Accountant / Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting fiscal operations through financial analysis, grant monitoring, compliance review, fiscal reporting, and contract closeout activities. This role ensures adherence to Federal and State funding requirements by reviewing financial documentation, monitoring expenditures, analyzing fiscal data, and supporting financial oversight functions. The position works closely with internal finance teams and external providers to resolve discrepancies, maintain compliance, and support effective financial management of grant-funded programs.
Job Responsibilities
- Track and monitor the receipt of required financial documentation from providers and internal stakeholders.
- Review provider-submitted financial reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with approved budgets, contracts, and grant awards.
- Analyze financial statements, cash flow reports, and fiscal documentation to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance.
- Resolve fiscal and claim-related issues with providers, finance staff, and other stakeholders.
- Monitor grant expenditures and funding activity to ensure compliance with Federal and State fiscal requirements.
- Assist with contract reviews, fiscal audits, and verification of required financial documentation.
- Support annual contract closeout activities and claim review processes.
- Perform reconciliations and analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Prepare fiscal summaries, financial reports, and analytical documentation for management review.
- Assist with studies and evaluations related to fiscal controls, accounting procedures, and financial operations.
- Support quarterly encumbrance reviews and other assigned fiscal projects.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in accordance with established policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure effective financial oversight and compliance with funding guidelines.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 24 semester credit hours in Accounting and/or Auditing.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional accounting or finance experience.
- Experience with financial statement preparation and analysis.
- Experience performing cash flow analysis and financial reconciliations.
- Knowledge of internal controls and accounting principles.
- Experience preparing fiscal reports and conducting financial reviews.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a structured environment.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Must possess at least 24 semester credit hours in Accounting and/or Auditing.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of professional accounting or finance experience required.
- Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, budget analysis, and fiscal oversight required.
- Experience supporting grants, contracts, government agencies, or public-sector finance environments preferred.
- Experience with Federal grant regulations, grant claims, and reimbursement processes preferred.
- Government, nonprofit, or grant-funded accounting experience preferred.
