Bilingual Part-Time Evening Computer Instructor
Tuesdays 7-8:30pm
Reports to: EAABF ESOL & Computer Program Manager
Program Summary: Epworth’s Ana A. Brito Foundation provides English (Basic – Level 5), Computer and Spanish classes to adult learners. EAABF serves students representing over 20 countries with over a dozen native languages. Onsite childcare is provided.
Computer Program Summary: Our Computer Literacy program is designed for adults who are 18 years of age and above. Classes are in-person for 90-minutes on Tuesday evenings (in English) and Wednesday evenings (in Spanish) beginning at 7:00 p.m. The computer lab is furnished with 11 computers, a network printer, plus a wall-mounted television equipped for hybrid instruction. Computer Classes aim to provide new immigrant families the following abilities:
· To improve communication with educators, employers, friends and loved ones anywhere in the world.
· To apply for work, complete online applications, search for information among other things using the web.
· To improve their abilities to help themselves, their children and families in areas such as homework, employment, healthcare and educational opportunities.
· To setup, use and maintain an email account.
Position Summary: EAABF is currently seeking an experienced Computer Instructor to join our team. Instructors are contracted for a trimester, though most continue through all three trimesters.
· Fall 2025 (Sept. 2-Dec. 19)
· Winter 2026 (Jan. 13-Mar. 20)
· Spring 2026 (Apr. 7-Jun. 12)
Qualifications:
§ Have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. (Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.)
- Passionate about teaching computer literacy to adult learners.
§ Willingness to collaborate with others and show patience and care in working with new immigrant communities.
§ Bilingual English/Spanish applicants preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Have proven knowledge of and experience using Computer Literacy curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Good working knowledge of digital hardware basics.
- Proven knowledge of and experience with a variety of the following (minimum of 1 each):
- Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.).
- Email platforms (both free and paid).
- Microsoft products
- Word processing.
- Excellent, inquisitive, internet search skills to teach the students to utilize internet and computer resources that are most beneficial to their specific learning needs.
- Ability to understand students’ individual goals and develop their long-term education plans.
- Highly self-motivated.
- Able to stand for extended periods of time.
The Computer Literacy Instructor will:
- Prepare lesson plans, handouts and organizing materials that
- Meet the language and reading level needs of all students.
- Are based on the values and interests of the learners.
- Practice various tasks, exercises and/or projects that engage realistic learner challenges.
- Include supplemental activities to promote competency building.
- Communicate directly with students regarding class meetings, homework, assignments, etc.
- Prepare and conduct a survey of each new student at the start of each class session to ascertain their level of experience with computers and how best to structure a curriculum, lesson plans and demonstrations to meet students’ individual needs.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before class begins to ensure the classroom is set up and ready by the start of class.
- At the conclusion of each class, ensure that all devices are stored securely, the classroom in good condition, and the room is ready for the next users.
- Track students’ progress and report learner gains at the end of each session (Fall, Winter, & Spring).
- Accurately record attendance. (This includes following up with students who are absent and reporting excessive absences to the Program Manager, as needed.)
- Foster student participation and leadership through respectful, engaging and communicative classrooms.
- Maintain a collegial rapport and healthy learning environment within the classroom.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and workshops.
- Report needs, issues or conflicts to the Program Manager as they arise.
Compensation:
Teachers are paid $20 per hour of classroom instruction time.
