The Episcopal School of Baton Rouge seeks a Head Girls Basketball Coach to supervise a staff of assistant Upper School and Middle School coaches in conjunction with the Director of Athletics. This position reports directly to the Athletic Director. The Head Coach is responsible for instructing students in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary to realize team and individual success. They must also work to instill in students the values of sportsmanship, pride in accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. The Head Coach works with the Middle School coaching staff to promote strong vertical alignment of the sport. The Head Coach also works with the other athletic staff to observe and promote the school’s mission, policies, and athletic procedures.
This position includes both in-season and off-season responsibilities and comes with a stipend with an annual renewal. The Head Coach candidate must be employed full-time as a Physical Education teacher at the Episcopal School of Baton Rouge.

Physical Education Teaching Duties
- Teach Physical Education classes to early childhood, lower-school, and/or middle-school-aged children, and potentially upper-school students at times, using innovative games and challenges that promote physical activity among all students.
- Provide engaging, fun, and effective instruction that establishes a foundation in health and wellness for students, helps them develop age-appropriate motor skills, and fosters proper exercise habits.
- Ensure maximum participation for all students regardless of skill level.
- Communicate in developmentally appropriate ways, using an altruistic approach that clearly conveys that every student can succeed and will benefit from a physically active, healthy lifestyle.
- Focus on making learning visible through effective student engagement.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers to plan and implement age-appropriate activities.
- Evaluate not only physical growth but also social and emotional growth.
- Attend scheduled faculty/division/department meetings
- Participate in professional development
- Perform additional faculty duties assigned, including, but not limited to, supervising students during carpool, lunch, advisory, recess, and so forth.
Serve as a coordinator for the sport, including being responsible for:
- Overseeing sport-specific staff and establishing the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff.
- Planning, scheduling, documenting, and running organized practices
- Holding regular staff meetings to ensure alignment, goal setting, and communication regarding the overall program.
- Planning and providing professional development of coaching staff.
- Analyzing season effectiveness and evaluating all assistants within two weeks of the conclusion of the sports season.
- Maintaining the budget, purchasing equipment, and maintaining associated equipment and facilities.
- Overseeing the safety and general conditions of the equipment and facilities in the sport of responsibility and communicating any needs or deficiencies to the Athletic Director.
- Keeping accurate records of uniform and equipment inventory.
- Overseeing the facility set up for home events.
- Ensuring all equipment and facilities are secure at the end of practice and home events.
- Coordinating team transportation needs.
- Ensuring consistent implementation and compliance with all current school, state, league, and sport-specific policies and regulations.
- Maintaining and communicating all written training rules, lettering policies, and any other regulations of the sport.
- Maintaining necessary forms, paperwork, rosters, and statistics.
- Organizing, maintaining, and communicating sport-specific team schedules and events.
- Supervising student-athletes for all on and off-campus sport-specific activities.
- Partnering with teachers and administrators to support student-athletes in academics and behavior.
- Attending department, division, and other school and non-school association meetings.
- Working directly with the Middle School Athletic Director to oversee and administer Middle School girls’ basketball, including scheduling, signups, and overall organization.
- Consistently communicating with the Athletic Director about all changes or additions in the sport-specific program.
- Developing, maintaining, and promoting positive team support within the school and community.
- Keeping parents informed of practice, travel, game, and summer schedules.
- Holding a parent meeting (i.e., tip-off dinner) during the preseason period to outline the program's expectations, policies, and procedures.
- Selecting a parent liaison to represent the sport-specific team for coordinating with the team's needs within the guidelines of the Squires Athletic Booster Club.
- Attending awards programs for the sport and presenting awards to recipients.
- Performing such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and as requested by the Athletic Director.

Personal And Professional Characteristics And Experiences
- A bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a related field, certification to teach Physical Education, or the ability to earn a passing score on the Physical Education PRAXIS test.
- Successful experience coaching basketball at the high school level is required.
- A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holder or the willingness to obtain one is required.
- Experience with state-level athletic associations and adhering to the rules and regulations.
- An ability to meet the needs of students of various ages and abilities through differentiated instruction.
- Creativity in program design that balances content, skill, and student self-direction through the use of a variety of instructional methods that translate into positive student-athlete experiences in and out of the athletic landscape.
