We are currently hiring a Life Enrichment Director to lead the development, coordination, and execution of meaningful activities and engagement programs that enhance the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of our residents. This leadership role is responsible for creating a vibrant, person-centered environment that promotes resident choice, dignity, and quality of life while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices in senior care.
Wage: $60,000-$75,000 /yr. (DOE)
Schedule: 9:00am-5:00pm Full-Time | Primarily Day Hours with occasional evenings, weekends, and special events as needed
What You'll Do
- Design, plan, and implement a variety of life enrichment programs tailored to individual resident interests, preferences, and abilities.
- Develop activities that support cognitive, social, spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being.
- Foster a welcoming, homelike environment that promotes resident autonomy, engagement, and meaningful daily experiences.
- Coordinate and integrate life enrichment services into resident care plans through collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
- Facilitate group activities, one-on-one engagement opportunities, special events, community outings, and wellness programs.
- Develop and oversee volunteer programs, intergenerational initiatives, and partnerships with community organizations.
- Organize and lead resident council meetings, ensuring resident feedback is addressed and communicated appropriately.
- Encourage resident and family participation in planning activities and community events.
- Build strong relationships with families by providing updates and opportunities for involvement in resident programming.
- Ensure all residents, including those with cognitive or physical impairments, have access to meaningful engagement opportunities.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and organizational regulations related to activity programming and resident engagement.
- Complete required assessments, participation records, progress notes, and other documentation accurately and timely.
- Ensure activity-related portions of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) are completed in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Track participation, evaluate program effectiveness, and use resident feedback to continuously improve offerings.
- Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and professional development for life enrichment staff and volunteers.
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management of team members.
- Collaborate with nursing, therapy, dietary, social services, and other departments to support holistic resident care.
- Coordinate entertainment, guest speakers, community partners, and special events to enhance resident experiences.
- Develop and manage the life enrichment department budget and ensure responsible use of resources.
- Maintain activity supplies, equipment, and program spaces.
- Serve as an advocate for resident rights, preferences, and overall well-being.
- Support additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Experience leading life enrichment, activities, or recreational programming in a long-term care, assisted living, memory care, or senior living setting.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise, motivate, and develop staff and volunteers.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of person-centered care principles and resident engagement strategies.
- Experience supporting residents with dementia and other cognitive impairments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of resident satisfaction and program quality.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English to support safe resident care, documentation, and communication with residents, families, and team members.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for creating meaningful resident experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as an Activity Director (ADC) or comparable credential.
- Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Gerontology, or a related field.
- Previous experience managing a team in a healthcare, senior living, or long-term care environment.
- Experience with regulatory compliance, care planning, and MDS documentation.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and setting up activity spaces and equipment.
- Ability to push or pull wheelchairs, carts, and activity equipment as needed.
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Work Environment and Reporting
- Reports directly to the Administrator.
- Works closely with nursing, therapy, dietary, social services, and other interdisciplinary team members.
- Interacts regularly with residents, families, volunteers, community partners, entertainers, and vendors.
- Supports residents with varying cognitive and physical abilities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and resident-centered care in all interactions.
