What we are looking for:

The Mohs Technician Preceptor ensures training for Mohs Technicians across the company is uniform, complete, and adherent to regulations and standards. This individual must be an outstanding Mohs technician capable of processing, embedding, cutting, and staining tissue specimens so a quality microscopic slide can be produced for diagnosis by the Mohs surgeon, in addition to being a passionate trainer and educator for new Mohs Technicians.


What you'll do:

  • Responsible for leading and training new Mohs Technicians in best practice, compliant processes, CLIA requirements procedures for specimen preparation and quality control.
  • Assist with new Mohs laboratory set ups.
  • Ensuring approved logs and checklists are properly maintained for assigned labs.
  • Properly map and process specimens, freezing and sectioning specimens per CLIA regulations.
  • Implement appropriate procedures for staining, tissue processing, embedding, cryostat calibration, coverslipping techniques, troubleshooting and other assignments.
  • Efficiently organize, file, log, and be able to locate all slides/blocks; dispose of outdated slides/blocks as necessary per CAP/CLIA regulations.
  • Adjusts personal availability according to volume changes and activity surges. Must have the ability to travel to mutually agreed upon locations to support Mohs Technician training, lab set-up, CLIA inspections, etc.
  • Ability to function independently and to interact well with doctors, patients, and other team members.
  • Operates laboratory equipment according to equipment guidelines. Checks care areas for malfunctioning equipment and general maintenance problems on a regular basis. Reports findings to the appropriate person or arranges for repairs, as required.
  • Ensures that blood/body fluids, biohazard materials, needle containers and potentially infectious waste are appropriately disposed of and removed from the laboratory areas, according to infection control guidelines.
  • Ensures laboratory safety practices are adhered to at all times.
  • Provide general laboratory maintenance such as equipment maintenance as required, making reagents, daily cleaning, and filling fixative bottles.
  • Orders, stocks, and maintains lab, special order items and supply storage areas using par levels of supplies, forms, and equipment. Monitors expiration dates and takes action accordingly. Recognizes usage trends affecting unit supplies and makes recommendations for adjustments.
  • Participates in staff meetings and workgroups by providing constructive input for practice improvements and solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

It’ll help to have/be:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work with an Electronic Health Record and other related E-Systems, Modernizing Medicine experience a plus.
  • Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks, following through to completion.

Qualifications/Experience:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • At least one (1) year of prior experience as a Mohs Technician required.
  • Preferred Education (not required), associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.


Work environment and physical requirements:

Medical office, procedure/exam room and laboratory environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, biohazards or toxic substances. Daily activities may include standing, walking, sitting, bending and lifting items up to 30 lbs.
