What are the responsibilities and job description for the Histotechnician Mohs position at Advanced Dermatology?
As a Mohs Histotechnologist, you will be responsible for performing specialized histological procedures to support Mohs micrographic surgery. This includes processing tissue specimens, staining & preparing slides, maintaining adherence to CLIA regulations / inspections, lab manual / log maintenance. The Mohs Histotechnologist will collaborate closely with dermatologists, surgeons, and pathology teams to ensure the highest standard of patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
1. **Tissue Processing:** Process tissue specimens from Mohs surgery procedures using standard histological techniques, ensuring high-quality and timely results.
2. **Microtomy:** Perform microtomy to create thin sections of tissue specimens for microscopic examination, ensuring proper tissue orientation.
3. **Staining Techniques:** Utilize standard staining techniques to enhance the visibility of cellular structures, facilitating accurate diagnosis by pathologists. Future possibility of immunostaining in our practice is possible.
4. **Quality Control:** Implement and adhere to quality control measures to maintain accuracy and precision in all histological procedures.
5. **Record Keeping:** Maintain detailed and accurate records of all procedures, including specimen identification, processing steps, and results.
6. **Equipment Maintenance:** Ensure proper functioning of histology equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine maintenance as needed.
7. **Collaboration:** Work collaboratively with dermatologists, surgeons, and pathology teams to ensure seamless communication and optimal patient care.
8. **Adherence to Regulations:** Stay informed about relevant industry regulations and guidelines, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards (e.g. CLIA)
9. **Teamwork.** Willingness to assist surgeons on the floor with procedures / patient care if necessary for efficient, quality patient care.
Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology or a related field preferred.
- Certification as a Histotechnologist (HT) through ASCP or an equivalent certification program preferred.
- Experience in histology, with specific experience in Mohs histotechnology preferred.
- Proficiency in tissue processing, microtomy, and staining techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with relevant safety protocols and adherence to ethical standards.
- Previous experience as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician, with experience in processing dermatological specimens
