- Assist individuals with brain injury, intellectual disabilities, and other neurological disabilities in achieving a challenging, stimulating, dignified life by serving as an advocate and liaison for and on behalf of individuals’ rights and benefits.
- Provide supervision, training, and assistance in accomplishing activities of daily living, which includes, but is not limited to, self-care skills, social skills, recreation skills, community skills, and domestic skills for a 10 year old male.
Empowering People’s Independence is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work with a active, fun-loving youth in the Self-Direction program. The primary location would be within the Manlius area, but the individual enjoys traveling locally and exploring new places within their community. This individual is seeking Community Habilitation staff to help him work to achieve personal goals. The individual and his family are looking for a dedicated staff member that will become a long-term member of the individual’s care team.
We are looking for individuals that are dependable, patient, and enthusiastic. Prior experience working with individuals that have cognitive and/or developmental disabilities is strongly preferred- but the team is also willing to train the right applicant. Reliable vehicle and a New York State driver's license are required. Background check, fingerprinting and DMV record check will be conducted prior to hire by the agency. There is no cost to the applicant for any of these required checks. Any/all training time for this position is paid.
- Schedule:
- Per Diem 0-19.9 hours a week
- Monday - Friday 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
- High school graduate or equivalent; one-year experience in the human service field preferred.
- Maintain a valid New York State driver’s license; a vehicle is required to perform the job
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be trained in all required trainings within 90 days of being hired and maintain current certifications with all required trainings
- Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communications skills
- Must be 18 years or older
- Applicants cannot have the same address as person supported
