Sewer, Atelier (W2 Contract)

Important Candidate Note

We are seeking experienced sewers with true sample-making experience and a strong understanding of garment finishing. This role is not primarily focused on alterations. Candidates whose backgrounds are mainly in retail alterations may not be the right fit.

Position Summary

The Sample Maker is responsible for the execution of concepts, trials, prototypes, and high-quality samples. This includes sewing prototypes and various garment samples for runway shows, press samples, and preseason sales samples.

Primary Responsibilities

• Construct one-of-a-kind garments according to pattern and/or draping specifications from the Collection Design Team.
• Sew prototypes and various garment samples for runway shows, press samples, and preseason sales samples.
• Provide expert finishing and tailoring of specialty garments.
• Collaborate closely with patternmakers and designers to ensure design intent is achieved.
• Maintain the highest level of quality and craftsmanship in keeping with the brand and image.
• Contribute to the creative process and develop innovative solutions to garment construction challenges.

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience as a seamstress or sample maker in an Atelier environment.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in luxury or ready-to-wear environments.
• Strong sample-making and garment construction experience, rather than primarily alterations.
• Strong knowledge of fine fabrics, trims, sewing techniques, and garment construction.
• Excellent handwork skills, including hand and machine sewing.
• Highly skilled sewer with expertise in sewing techniques and construction.
• Strong attention to detail and highly developed standards of excellence in garment sewing and fit.
• Ability to work with luxury and innovative fabrics.
• Some patternmaking knowledge preferred.
• Courses in patternmaking and garment construction preferred.
