Compensation: $135,000 - $160,000 per year, based on relevant experience
This position is open to remote work; candidates must be located within the contiguous United States.

JOB SUMMARY: The Director, Biological Resources ensures biology projects are profitable, efficient, and exceed client expectations. This role collaborates with management across regions to maintain project quality and consistency, while also developing programs to recruit, train, and mentor both field and desk-based biologists.

  • Provide biology resource support by collaborating with Regional Managers (RMs), Regional Supervisors (RSs), and Project Managers (PMs) across the Eocene Environmental Division
  • Foster open communication with biologists and other service line teams to ensure alignment and collaboration
  • Cultivate new and expand existing client relationships to benefit biology projects and other service lines
  • Oversee and support biology projects as a Project Manager and/or technical expert
  • Establish and implement QA/QC goals for all aspects of biology projects
  • Address client issues promptly and provide effective resolutions
  • Escalate complex issues to senior leadership for resolution
  • Represent the Eocene Environmental Division at industry events and deliver presentations to enhance visibility
  • Coach, mentor, and develop biology staff, including overseeing technical onboarding and supporting career development planning
  • Support direct managers in identifying staffing needs, recruiting biology professionals, and ensuring team members have the skills and knowledge to perform at a high level
  • Assist direct managers with employee retention and engagement initiatives for biology professionals
  • Establish and achieve annual business strategic priorities and quarterly personal goals and controls
  • Present to Wright Executive Leadership and various management teams during regular and ad hoc meetings
  • Collaborate on and make decisions regarding Eocene operating policies and procedures within your area of expertise
  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

  • Position requires 25 – 50% travel
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, or related field or closely related area of specialization
  • Minimum 15 years relevant experience
  • Minimum 4 years leading and supervising staff
  • Minimum 1 year performing consulting/project-based work
  • Certified wildlife ecologist or certified ecologist
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Strong knowledge of NEPA biological review processes, including Section 7 and 10 consultations, MBTA permits, SPUT permits, and scientific collecting permits
  • Skilled in senior-level review of biological documents, permits, and NEPA components such as BA/BE, EIS, and EA
  • Expert in environmental regulations, including the Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act
  • Proven experience in business development and securing high-value contracts
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously with initiative, creativity, and focus on deadlines
  • Maintains professional relationships with diverse stakeholders, including field staff, contractors, and clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical and non-technical information clearly
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Strategic decision-maker with a broad vision and team-oriented mindset
  • Experienced in drafting environmental safety reports and policies
  • Demonstrated ability to independently coordinate and complete complex tasks
  • Committed to excellent customer service through active listening, rapport-building, and patience
  • Proficient in interpreting contracts, MSAs, and scopes of work, and communicating key details to staff
  • Successful in establishing procedures and mentoring large remote teams, including performance reviews and leadership development
  • Skilled in training and educating staff on job-related initiatives
  • Trusted resource to organizational leadership, providing expert guidance and direction
  • Knowledgeable in business operations and leadership principles
  • Deep understanding of California’s biological resources, with expertise in wildlife and/or wetland ecology
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Preferred 20 years of biology experience
  • Experience working with federal, state, and local governments
  • Experience with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
  • Experience working with utilities and/or telecom clients
  • Current or previous U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) 10(a)(1)(A) permit and/or state specific scientific collecting permits
  • Prior participation in industry organizations and governing bodies relating to environmental consulting (i.e., agency coordination)
