Duties
- Support ophthalmology and optometry professionals by preparing patients for exams and assisting during procedures
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse to assist in comprehensive patient assessments
- Conduct preliminary tests including visual acuity, refraction, and basic physiology assessments using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Epic or similar platforms
- Assist with laboratory tasks such as specimen collection, sample processing, and maintaining aseptic technique standards
- Manage optical inventory, including retail sales of eyewear and contact lenses, applying retail math to ensure proper stock levels and pricing
- Maintain accurate medical records, including medical coding and billing information, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Provide excellent customer service by guiding patients through frame selections, explaining lens options, and supporting retail sales efforts
Experience
- Prior clinic experience in ophthalmology or optometry settings is highly desirable
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology related to eye health is essential
- Experience working with EMR systems such as Epic or other healthcare software platforms
- Familiarity with medical billing practices and medical coding procedures to ensure accurate documentation
- Retail management or sales experience, especially in optical or healthcare product environments, is a plus
- Ability to perform vital signs measurement and basic laboratory techniques with precision
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy at all times
