The State of New Hampshire, Department of Environmental Services, Water Division, Winnipesaukee River Basin Bureau has a full time vacancy for a Treatment Plant Operator I. 

Summary:

Assists in the daily operations of the Winnipesaukee River Basin Program's facilities, including pump stations and collection system, to ensure proper operation and compliance with State and Federal regulations.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 1 year of education and experience after completion of high school

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license

Other Requirements:

1. Must be able to perform occasional strenuous activity, including climbing ladders and heavy lifting

2. Must be able to work a schedule which includes weekend and holiday rotation

3. Must be able to respond to callbacks and participate in rotating, on-call duty

4. Must be able to carry a pager or cell phone to receive notification of callbacks

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience in engineering, waste or water treatment plant operations, building construction, facility maintenance, or equipment repair

Basic computer literacy in Microsoft Office internet and email (Outlook) applications

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS: NH Wastewater Operator 1-OIT certification or higher within 12 months of hire

When applicable, the work of an employee in trainee status in this position shall be overseen by a fully qualified individual. Responsibilities:

Identifies and responds to operational malfunctions or emergencies at the treatment plant, pump stations or within the collection system including any and all of the hazardous conditions that may result in order to protect the facilities and maintain process efficiency.

Conducts regular inspections to ensure the proper functioning of waste handling and flow measuring equipment, and records data relevant to the operation.

Makes changes in the mechanical, physical and/or chemical processes of the treatment system as directed to maintain optimum system operation and makes operational decisions in response to problems when supervisory personnel are not readily available to do so.

Inspects and performs repairs, maintenance or adjustments to building and grounds, sewer lines and equipment to assure continuous operation.

Operates heavy equipment such as a backhoe and dump trucks.

Operates solids handling and treatment equipment to provide for timely and efficient disposal.

Performs routine laboratory analysis of wastewater samples for process control.

Continually seeks to improve practices to add quality and value in support of the Department's mission while identifying and eliminating unnecessary or redundant actions.
