The State of New Hampshire, Department of Environmental Services, Water Division, Dam Bureau, has a part-time vacancy for a Dam Control Operator II.
Summary:
Performs routine duties involving the operation and maintenance of dams, buildings, structures, property, dam control devices, and collecting hydrologic data to ensure the proper control of flow and levels of inland water bodies for the Department of Environmental Services, Water Division.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in the fields of construction, maintenance, operation and monitoring, or comparable experience building and grounds maintenance, landscaping, carpentry or site construction.
License/Certification: Valid driver's license and have access to transportation for statewide travel.
Other Requirements: Must perform regular job functions in adverse working conditions such as heavy rain, snow or ice storms. When necessary, must perform duties of position during emergencies, exclusive of normal working hours.

Responsibilities:
Travels throughout the state to operate and maintain state owned dams or dams for which the Department has responsibility. Operates manually or electrically driven devices to open or close water control structures (gates, stoplogs, flashboards) based upon observed level of lake and river discharge requirements.
Supervises and performs equipment repair, installation and relocation work. Repairs and maintains dam control devices, buildings, spillways, structures and adjacent property to assure smooth and safe operating conditions.
Operates, maintains and performs elementary programming on automated discharge systems and data collection platforms (field computers) and sensors. Inputs data into reservoir routing models (computer application) for use in planning future operations.
Operates and performs light maintenance on equipment in the completion of maintenance and operations functions. Equipment may include mowers, trimmers, winches, welders, generators, chain saws, small engines, vehicles and more.
Coordinates operations and flow releases from state owned dams with downstream water users, hydroelectric developers, local, state and federal agencies and the general public to provide the status of watershed and Department operations.
Trains and instructs summer interns and part-time help in the performance of maintenance and custodial tasks and completion of required work associated with state owned dams.
Undertakes emergency response actions relative to flooding, vandalism or other events that result in potential danger to dam structures and the general public. Coordinates with local and state emergency response officials and authorized to take independent action when support is not available.
Completes daily or weekly review of dams and associated structures relative to ongoing conditions and security. Reports any unusual conditions that may require investigation by senior technical staff.
Continually seeks to improve practices to add quality and value in support of the Department's mission while identifying and eliminating unnecessary or redundant actions.
