Duties Description

Primary responsibilities include supporting all phases of the Hunter Education Program (HEP) on a regional level by providing material logistical support, training, and supervision for the volunteer instructor force, along with lower level staff. Will track, distribute, and arrange repairs for the HEP’s extensive inventory of training aids. Will support instructor training courses, refresher sessions, recruitment, and other HEP related meetings. Will directly communicate instructor needs, problems, and suggestions to the Regional Coordinator.

Additional tasks will include reviewing applicants and conducting site visits of various special license permits; providing regional support on wildlife conflicts by phone, email and in-person; tabulating biological data, game and non-game species surveys; collecting and submitting wildlife for disease testing; managing regional databases; wildlife program equipment upkeep, inventory and acquisition; and assisting with various public outreach events.

Minimum Qualifications

Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis
or

Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at salary grade 13 or higher and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: Permanent competitive service as a Fish & Wildlife Technician 2.

Additional Comments

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
